Personal Webspace | Make your page | Publicize | Resources | FUNCTIONS | Storage and transfer These instructions assume you have a suitable comfort level with choosing and using software to make a Web page and that you understand or have experience with Steps 1 through 3 of Putting up your page. If not, please review those steps before trying the advanced functions described here. Print this page so you can have it handy when you're not connected to the Sympatico service. Image MapsAn image map is a picture (usually a gif file) on a Web page which has clickable parts that link to other Web pages within the same Web site, or elsewhere on the Internet. You can use image maps with your Sympatico Webspace. Image maps do not work with older browsers. How to use client-side image maps with the Sympatico serviceFirst, use an image map creator application to define the co-ordinates on your image that correspond to the regions that you want to be hyperlinked to other Web pages. Make sure you choose client-side or CSIM as the type of map tag information. Then, in your Web page that contains the image you want to use as an image map, refer to the image and map tag information in this manner:
where sample.gif is the name of your image, and map refers to the map tag information you copy from the image map creator application you've used, to the HTML file that contains the image. You can test your image map by opening your Web page that contains it from your hard drive and viewing it within your browser. Then upload both files to your Webspace, making sure that the files are in the same directory. If when you test your image map it doesn't work, you can delete the files and start again. The example below illustrates an image map at work. If you move your mouse over the image without clicking, you will see URLs at the bottom of your browser window corresponding to areas of the image. If you click on the white balloon, you will go to The Weather Network home page. If you click on the left yellow spot, you will go to Canada411. If you click on the right yellow spot, you will go to Canada Toll Free. Clicking anywhere else in the image takes you to the Sympatico main page.
