Netscape Navigator [ Communicator ]
Starting Up  |  BROWSING  |  Bookmarks  |  Sending a Page
Finding Stuff  |  Toolbars

The Navigator component of Netscape Communicator is used primarily for viewing Web pages on the Internet.

To view, or 'browse' a Web page you need only to point and click on a hyperlink to display the page you want to see in the Navigator window. You've very likely already clicked on hyperlinks to get to this page. If you know of a Web page you want to view, you must enter its address or URL into Navigator's Netsite/Location box, then press Enter.

Location Bar -- Windows

Switching between Web pages

Each time you view Web pages with Navigator, it keeps track of the pages you've already used, and stores them until you exit Navigator. You can switch between Web pages you've already viewed, in the sequence you viewed them, by using the Back and Forward buttons on the Navigator toolbar.

You can also browse a list of recently-viewed Web pages, and go directly to one, by using Navigator's Go menu. Click the Go menu, then point and click on the title of the Web page you wish to view again.

The Netsite/Location box on the Navigator Location toolbar also keeps a list of recently viewed Web pages (this feature isn't included in the Macintosh version of Communicator). Unlike the Go menu, this list is not erased each time you exit or quit Netscape Communicator. For information on how to clear this list, see Netscape's answers to Advanced Frequently Asked Technical Questions

Viewing more than one Web page at the same time

If you wish, you can view multiple Web pages at the same time. To view multiple Web pages simultaneously, start Communicator, then click File, then click New --> Navigator Window. A new Navigator browser window will open. You can now browse new Web pages, while your first Navigator window does not change. If the new window obscures the first one, click the Communicator menu (macintosh communicator menu icon for Macintosh); the active windows are listed by title at the bottom of the Communicator menu list.

How many windows you can have open and view simultaneously depends on how much internal memory (RAM) your computer has, and how large your computer monitor is.

Printing a Web page

If you have a printer, you can print the contents of a Web page that is diaplayed in Navigator. To do this, simply click the File menu, then click Print. Some Web pages may contain enough information to print on several sheets of paper.
