Subscribing to a newsgroup makes it easy to revisit your favourite newsgroups without having to search for them each time you connect to the Internet.

To choose and subscribe to a newsgroup, start Collabra, then click the Subscribe button on the Collabra toolbar to open the Subscribe window and display a HUGE list of available newsgroups (more than 20,000). If after a few seconds (or a few minutes if you're using a slow modem) the newsgroup list does not display, click the Get Groups button at the left of the window.

If you have Netscape Communicator 4.7, open Messenger, then click the news server, which will be at the bottom of the list in the left pane of the Messenger window. Click the File menu, then click Subscribe.

You should see a window like this:

Newsgroups are listed in alphabetical order, and are usually grouped in folders according to topic. Scroll through the list and click the plus sign beside a topic folder to see newsgroup names for that topic. You can also search for newsgroups in the list. When you see a newsgroup you to which you wish to subscribe, click on the newsgroup, then click the Subscribe button at the left. Repeat for as many newsgroups you want to add to your subscribed list.

You see a checkmark next to each newsgroup to which you subscribe. If you are new to newsgroups, we recommend subscribing to news.newusers.questions.

Click OK.

Once you have subscribed to one or more newsgroups, you can read, send, and reply to messages using Netscape Messenger.
