Internet Tutorial
[ Learn about the Internet ]
How do I find things on the Internet? There are several ways to find things on the Internet. Start with Sympatico's Web Guide accessible from the Sympatico Home Page. There you will find links to literally hundreds of Web sites that have been selected for you. They have been chosen from thousands of Web sites available on the Internet based on their quality, usefulness, general interest, or because they are just plain fun. The Sympatico service has something for everyone. Another way you can find a Web site is by looking in general-purpose 'Internet Directories'. These are on the Internet, of course, but unlike the Yellow Pages Directories, which are regional in nature, Internet Directories are world-wide. If you have a topic in mind and can't find it on the Sympatico Web site, click Search on the Sympatico toolbar and then use one of the search options presented to you. We present you with a choice of Internet directories to search. It's impossible to say which one is best or where you will find Web sites on your topic. The directories are all different, some big, some small, and are maintained by different organizations on the Internet. If you would like to find out about the difference between a search engine and a directory, or between different search engines, or if you would like to improve your search techniques, go to Help with finding things on the Internet. Practise searching: You can also search for a topic within the Sympatico Help site. If searching on the Internet is new to you, try this for practice (*read the instructions below first, then proceed):
