How do I change my home page?

A home page is the first screen, or window you see when you connect to the Internet.netscapehomebutton
iehomebutton It's also called the 'start' page, and is the page displayed when you click your browser's Home button. You can make just about any page on the Internet your 'start', or 'home' page.

Make the Sympatico page your home page

You can personalize the Sympatico start page, then you can set your personalized Sympatico page to be your home page by changing your browser's settings. After you've done this, your personalized Sympatico page will be the first page you see each time you connect to the Internet. You can always get back to your home page by clicking the Home button on your browser's toolbar.

    If you don't know the type or version of the browser you're using, here's how to begin: simply click your browser's Help menu then click About Netscape or About Internet Explorer. You'll see a window displaying your browser's name and version number. Next, click the Internet browser you're currently using in the list below, then follow the instructions.

Change your home page with:

  • Netscape Communicator 4
  • Netscape Navigator 2 or 3
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 3
  • Netscape Communicator 4
    1. Click the Edit menu, then click Preferences.
    2. Click Navigator.
    3. Under Navigator starts with, click Home page.
    4. In the Location box (Home Page Location box with Macintosh), type the Internet address (or URL) of the Web page you want to make your home page. For example, the URL of your personalized Sympatico home page is http://www.sympatico.ca. To use the page your browser is currently displaying, click the Use Current Page button.
    5. Click OK.
    Netscape Navigator 2 or 3
    1. Click the Options menu, then click General Preferences.
    2. Click the Appearance tab.
    3. Beside Browser Starts With (On Startup Launch with Netscape Navigator 2), click Home Page Location, then type the Internet address (or URL) of the Web page you want to make your home page. For example, the URL of your personalized Sympatico home page is http://www.sympatico.ca.
    4. Click OK.
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 5
    1. First, go to the page you want to make your home page by typing the URL or selecting a Favorite.
    2. Click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options.
    3. Click the General tab.
    4. Under Home page, click Use Current (or type the address of another page; for example, the URL of Sympatico is http://www.sympatico.ca).
    5. Click OK.
