Asked Questions [Learn about the Internet]
INTERNET | Sympatico Service | Computers and Modems How can I empty the Web sites listed in the Netscape Location/Netsite box or the Internet Explorer Address box? One of the more frequent questions from the Computer Talk technical discussion forum is about how to remove the Web sites listed in the drop-down box contained within the Location/Netsite bar. Netscape Navigator keeps track of several of the most recent sites you've viewed, so you can quickly return to them by clicking on the arrow at the right end of the Location/Netsite box. These sites remain listed even when you exit and restart Navigator. This is a feature of Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator for Windows only.
The only way you can empty or clear the Web sites listed in the Location/Netsite drop-down box is the way described in detail by Netscape on their own Web site: See http://help.netscape.com/kb/consumer/19961024-3.html (this is also a good place to search for specific technical advice about using a component of Netscape software not already covered in Sympatico online Help). BUT, be careful using their instructions unless you are comfortable with editing Windows system files. Otherwise you might want to ask a friend who can do this. If you're using Netscape Communicator 4.06 or newerWith Netscape Communicator 4.06 or newer, it's a lot easier to clear the contents of the Location bar:
If you're using Internet Explorer With Internet Explorer, you can easily find a Web site you have visited in the last few days or weeks by clicking the History button on the toolbar. When you click the History button, a list of links for the Web sites and pages you have recently visited (the History list) displays. The History list also displays when you click the drop-down arrow beside the Address box. If you want, you can change the number of days that Web sites and pages are saved in the History list, or delete all items from the current History list.
