Updating your Sympatico Roaming software

Once you have downloaded the Sympatico roaming software and installed it on your hard drive, you will need to update it from time to time. The Sympatico roaming software stores a list of dialup numbers for the Sympatico service across Canada on your hard drive. As the Sympatico service continues to expand, this list will need to be updated. You do not need to download the Sympatico roaming software again. You only need to download a small data file to replace the dialup number list that the Sympatico roaming software uses.

The Sympatico roaming software uses a database of all Sympatico dialup locations, or Points of Presence (PoP), across canada. As the Sympatico service is expanded across Canada new PoPs are added. Since there is no set schedule for these additions, we advise you to update your roaming software prior to each time you intend to travel in Canada and wish to access the Sympatico service elsewhere than home or office. Check the date below as an indicator of the latest roaming software update.

Remember, the roaming software and any updates to it will only work with Sympatico Internet software - Netscape Communicator.

PC users should right-click the link below, then click Save Link As.... Macintosh users should click-and-hold the link below, then click Save this Link as.... You must save the update file in the Account Setup folder (called "asw"), within your Sympatico folder, on your hard drive, or it won't work (for PC users, this will probably be c:\Program Files\Sympatico\Communicator\Program\asw\). When prompted, click OK to replace the old popnums.txt file.

NOTE: The Sympatico roaming software and any update files must be saved in the Sympatico directory on your hard drive. Please read the Sympatico roaming FAQ before installing the roaming software. Sympatico roaming software is not available for Windows 3.1 or non PowerPC Macintosh. However, Windows 3.1 and Macintosh users can configure their settings manually.
