How many email addresses can I have?
The Sympatico service offers its members one email address per Sympatico account (Dialup or High Speed Edition). If you want more than one email address, you must get a new, separate Sympatico account, billed separately from your first one.
Can I change my email address?
Yes. But you can only change your email name -- the part the comes before the "@sympatico.ca". Here's how to change your email address online: To change your address online, go to the Customer Self-Care site, log on with your Sympatico User ID and Password, click Change Your E-Mail Address, then select one email address from the list available of email addresses or choose your own. Validate it, or click Change E-mail Address again, and then click OK. Note: The new address you choose should not exceed 25 characters.
Your email address will be changed immediately.
Can I change my email password?
Yes. But be aware that the password used to retrieve your email is the same password you use to log in to the Sympatico service (Dial-Up or High Speed Edition), and for publishing to your Sympatico Webspace. So, if you change your email password, you will also need to re-configure your email software and your dialer (or Access Manager) with the new password. You will find detailed directions on making these changes on the email settings page.
To change your password, log into the Customer Self-Care site, then Click Change Password.
Will changing my email address affect my Sympatico personal Webspace address?
Yes. If you have Sympatico Personal Webspace, the name of your Webspace directory is the same as your email name in your email address. Therefore, if you change your email address, your Webspace directory name will be changed to match your new email address (e.g., if the new email address is "email@example.com", it will become "http://www3.sympatico.ca/new_address"). Any files in your Webspace directory will be retained; only the directory name will be changed. just in case, you should be sure you have backup copies of any Webspace files on your hard drive.
If I change my email address or sign up with a different ISP, will email sent to my current email address be forwarded to my new email address?
No. Be sure to let people know that you are changing email addresses before doing so. Otherwise, messages sent to your old email address will be returned to the sender, marked "undeliverable".
I need to restore my Sympatico email settings in my Internet software. Where can I find this information?
These settings are located on the Sympatico Service Provider Setup Information Web page. Your email address and password are located on the last page of the Getting Started with the Sympatico Service booklet (assuming you wrote them down during the registration process), or in your Welcome letter.
